Samir Vertahov

I am a game development student that is kicking off his career as a developer. In the last 2 years I have worked on games, game plugins, a 2D game engine and math-driven projects based on geometric algebra. My primary programming languages are C++ and C#, with additional experience in Lua and Python, gained through work with game engines such as Unity and Unreal, as well as personal projects.

What makes me passionate about code is the process when lines of logic turn into something real. A feature that users enjoy, rely on, and find genuinely useful.

I can confidently say that problems do not frighten me. I actively learn new things to hone my skills, highly value feedback, and take pride in helping the team wherever possible in return.

PROJECTS

TimeChained

TimeChainedLogo.png

TimeChained is a 2D Unity-based game, created for the Beginner's Jam Summer 2025 by a team of 3 developers.

Inspired by rogue-likes, TimeChained features a level with obstacles and enemies, that the player has to advance through to reach the final boss.

Created fully from scratch in a week, TimeChained placed 23 out of 123 games!

Reel Or Nothing!

ReelOrNothingLogo.png

Reel Or Nothing! is a couch co-op game, created as a part of the study programme at Howest University.

Fueled by the idea to make fishing competitive, Reel Or Nothing! throws up to 4 players into a race to become the best fisher of the day.

Players must navigate the arena, complete fishing mini-games and prevent others from getting all the fish to themselves.

Watch Reel Or Nothing! gameplay trailer below.

2D Game Engine - feat. Burger Time

BurgerTime.png

As a part of the study programme at Howest University, we were tasked with creating our very own game engine and prove it's efficiency by developing a game with it.

The created engine features it's own event-based collision system, sound system, custom sprite display logic, paired up with game programming patterns such as state, observer and command.

Burger Time is an arcade classic, where the player must assemble all the burgers on the level while avoiding enemies. Being revisited and revamped on a new engine, it is presented with additional functionality, like co-op and a custom scoreboard.

Advanced Geometric Arcader

While studying at Howest University, I had the pleasure of discovering a new paradigm of Math, called Geometric Algebra.

Geometric Algebra is not just a new Math topic. It is a whole other way of thinking and interpreting geometry, where operations based on multiple matrices are replaced with a pair of primitives.

Advanced Geometric Arcader is a simple game where the cube-like player avoids enemies and gathers energy for missiles while rotating around moving blocks. It is fully written in C++, using a custom library made for the course, and features no vector math at all.

CURRENT WORK

Game Plugin Development

The logo belongs to © [Northwood Studios]. Used to demonstrate the game that I developed plugins for.

For more than a year I belong to a team of plugin developers on one of the biggest community server group for the Unity-based game called SCP Secret Laboratory.

SCP Secret Laboratory is a multiplayer game that supports up to 40 concurrent players in the server, with each one having their special role and rules to follow.

As a part of the team, it was my responsibility to receive tasks from the multiple server leads, tailoring them to their needs, respond to bug reports and implement fixes, as well as participate in code review of other developers plugins.

Quest System in UE5 C++

As a personal project and a learning opportunity, I decided to design and implement a quest system in Unreal Engine 5.5, fully using C++.
